Description:
Core Security Technologies has reported a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) component. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via a specially crafted XPAT command.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the NNTP component is enabled.

NOTE: The vulnerable component has to be enabled on systems before Exchange Server 2000 and 2003 is installed. However, Exchange Server 2003 automatically disables the component during installation.

Solution:
Apply patches.
