CVE-2004-1188

Description:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in xine-lib, where some have an unspecified impact and others can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

1) A boundary error exists in the "pnm_get_chunk()" function in "pnm.c" when handling the "PNA_TAG" chunk type. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by tricking a user into connecting to a malicious PNM server in an application linked against the vulnerable library.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

2) A signedness error exists in the "pnm_get_chunk()" function in "pnm.c" when handling chunk sizes for certain chunk types. This can be exploited by tricking a user into connecting to a malicious PNM server in an application linked against the vulnerable library.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

Some unspecified errors have also been reported in the Real RTSP clients.

Solution:
Update to version 1-rc8.
