Description:
A vulnerability has been reported in rsnapshot, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions on a vulnerable system with escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the "copy_symlink()" function where file permissions for symlinks incorrectly is set on the original file. This can be exploited in certain situations to take ownership of arbitrary files by placing a malicious symlink in a directory being backed up.

The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.2.0 and 1.1.6, and prior.

Update to version 1.1.7 or 1.2.1.
