|
Description: Sowhat has discovered a vulnerability in Magic ISO Maker, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error when extracting files from an ISO image. This makes it possible to have files extracted to arbitrary locations outside the specified directory using the "../" directory traversal sequence.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 5.2 (build 190), and also reported in version 5.0 Build 0166. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: The vulnerability will reportedly be fixed in the next build.
Do not extract untrusted ISO files.
To reduce the risk, never extract files as an administrative user.
