Description:
A vulnerability has been reported in IBM AIX, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is due to a unspecified boundary error in xlock. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow and allows arbitrary code execution with root privileges.

Solution:
Apply Interim fixes until APARs are available.

ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/security/xlock_ifix.tar.Z

Apply IY87943 (available).

APAR for AIX 5.3.0:
Apply IY87894 (available approx. 2006-10-04).
