Description:
A vulnerability has been reported in IBM AIX, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to an unspecified error in /usr/bin/rdist. This can be exploited to overwrite arbitrary files and execute arbitrary code with root privileges.

Solution:
Apply Interim fix until APARs are available.

Interim fix:
ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/security/rdist_ifix.tar.Z

APAR for AIX 5.2.0:
Apply IY88688 (available).

APAR for AIX 5.3.0:
Apply IY88687 (available approx. 2006-10-04).
