|
|
Description: Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in Newswriter, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
Input passed to the "NWCONF_SYSTEM[server_path]" parameter in include/editfunc.inc.php, include/main.inc.php, admin/include/menu.inc.php, and update/include/main.inc.php is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to include arbitrary files from local or external resources.
Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.4.2. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: The vendor describes how to fix two of the vulnerabilities by applying code changes. Edit the source code to ensure that none of the affected files can be accessed directly.

Set "register_globals" to "Off".
Provided and/or discovered by: Silahsiz Kuvvetler, XORON, and an anonymous person.
Changelog: 2006-09-28: Added additional vulnerabilities. Updated "Description" and "Solution" sections.
2006-10-03: Added CVE reference.
