Description:
Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in Second Sight ActiveGS ActiveX control, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors within the handling of properties (e.g. "Slot7", "Slot51", "Slot52", "Slot61", "Slot62", "Slot71", and "Slot72"). These can be exploited to cause stack-based overflows via overly long strings (greater than 256 or 1024 bytes) assigned to various properties of the ActiveX control.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code but requires that the user is e.g. tricked into visiting a malicious website.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 2.0.0.11. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Set the kill-bit for the affected ActiveX control.

Provided and/or discovered by:
Will Dormann, CERT/CC
