CVE-2008-0467

Description:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Firebird, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or potentially to compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A boundary error exists within the processing of usernames, which can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long username.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

2) Input validation errors within the processing of network packets can be exploited to cause the server to crash by sending specially crafted packets to an affected system.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 2.0.3, 2.0.2, 2.0.1, 1.5.4, 2.0.0, 1.0.3, and 2.1 Beta 2. Vulnerability #2 is also reported in version 1.5.5.

Solution:
Update to version 2.0.4.

Reportedly, the vulnerabilities will also be fixed in an upcoming version 1.5.6.
