|
|
Description: Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in SurgeMail, which can be exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system and by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
1) A format string error in the webmail.exe CGI application when handling e.g. strings assigned to the "page" parameter can be exploited via a specially crafted HTTP request containing format string specifiers.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.
2) A boundary error in "_lib_spawn_user_getpid()" within swatch.exe and surgemail.exe can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted HTTP request containing e.g. multiple overly long headers.
3) A boundary error exists within the IMAP service when processing "LIST" commands. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long argument to a "LIST" command.
4) A boundary error exists within the IMAP service when processing "LSUB" commands. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long argument to a "LSUB" command.
Successful exploitation of vulnerabilities #3 and #4 allow execution of arbitrary code, but requires valid user credentials.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 38k4. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Update to version 39c.
