Description:
Nico Golde has reported a vulnerability in PeerCast, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or to potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in "HTTP::getAuthUserPass()" when processing HTTP Basic authentication requests. This can be exploited to cause stack-based buffer overflows via an overly long HTTP Basic authentication string.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the authorization type is set to HTTP Basic.
The vulnerability is reported in version 0.1218. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution:
Restrict network access to trusted users only.
