Description: Dan Riley has discovered a vulnerability in InterNetNews (INN), which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "ARTpost()" function during the handling of control messages. This can result in a buffer overflow when filing these into per-type newsgroups.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system with the privileges of innd.
The vulnerability affects version 2.4.0 and STABLE snapshots. The 2.3.x branch and prior are not affected.
