Description:
Arjan van de Ven has discovered a vulnerability in the Linux kernel, allowing malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges on a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "ncp_lookup()" function in ncpfs since no checks on name component lengths are performed. This can be exploited to cause a stack overflow and may allow execution of arbitrary code with escalated privileges.

The vulnerability affects the 2.4.x and 2.6.x branches prior to versions 2.4.25 and 2.6.3.

Solution:
Update to version 2.4.25 or 2.6.3.
