Description

NGSSoftware has discovered a vulnerability in DB2, which can be exploited by malicious users to gain escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to an insecurity within the Remote Command Server component ("DB2RCMD.EXE"). The problem is that it uses the named pipe "DB2REMOTECMD" to listen for commands, which are then executed with the privileges of the "db2admin" account.

This can be exploited by any authenticated user to execute arbitrary commands with escalated privileges by connecting to the pipe.

The vulnerability has been reported in version 8.1 Enterprise Server Edition for Windows.
