Description: Manuel Lopez has reported some vulnerabilities in NewsPHP, allowing malicious people to gain administrative access and conduct Cross Site Scripting attacks.
NewsPHP fails to properly verify the privileges of an authenticated user. It is possible to gain administrative access by constructing a fake cookie with the following value "autorized=admin; root=admin".
Input passed to the "cat_id" parameter in "index.php" isn't properly verified before it is returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML or script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site by tricking the user into visiting a malicious website or follow a specially crafted link
An issue allowing administrative users to upload arbitrary files was also reported. This can be exploited to compromise the system.
The vulnerabilities reportedly affect all versions.
Solution: Restrict access to administrative functions using htaccess or similar.
Edit the source code to ensure that input passed to the "cat_id" parameter is properly sanitised.
