Description

BEA has issued updates for WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express. These fix a security issue, which potentially could grant inapropriate privileges.

The problem occurs if WebLogic Builder or the method "SecurityRoleAssignmentMBean.toXML()" is used to update a "weblogic.xml" file, which contains a "<security-role-assignment>" tag but no "<principal-name>" tag. This causes the "<security-role-assignment>" tag to be removed and permissions are set to defaults allowing access to the web application to unintended users.

The issue affects WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express version 7.0 Service Pack 5 and prior, and version 8.1 Service Pack 2 and prior.

Solution
Install patches and add appropriate assignments to "weblogic.xml" files:
