Description: A vulnerability has reported in Firebird and Borland Interbase, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the handling of database names. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by passing an overly long database filename when connecting.
Successful exploitation crashes the database service and may potentially also allow arbitrary code execution.
The vulnerability has been reported in the following products:
* Firebird 1.0.2
* Borland Interbase 7.1
Other versions may also be affected.
