Description:
c0ntex has reported a vulnerability in Xine, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in Xine-lib. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via e.g. a specially crafted asx file containing a reference to the "vcd:" URI handler.

Successful exploitation requires a user to be tricked into connecting to a malicious service or open a malicious asx file.

The vulnerability reportedly affects Xine 1-rc5 and prior.
