Description: Steven Van Acker has reported a vulnerability in bsdmainutils, which potentially can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain knowledge of sensitive information.
The problem is that the calender utility will process user created event files without dropping privileges when it runs with the "-a" command line option. This can be exploited to disclose the content of arbitrary files by including them in a specially crafted event file.
Successful exploitation requires that the calender utility is executed with the "-a" command line option and runs as a privileged user. Debian reportedly has an entry to run the utility as a cron job to inform users of upcoming appointments (not enabled by default).
The vulnerability has been reported in version 6.0.14 and prior.
