Description: Emuadmin Security Team has reported a vulnerability in spider, which potentially can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "read_file()" function in "movelog.c". This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by supplying an overly long string as argument to the "-s" command line option.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code with escalated privileges on systems, where the game has been installed setuid or setgid (typically setgid "games").
The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.1. Other versions may also be affected.
