Description

SuSE has issued an update for the kernel. This fixes two vulnerabilities, which can be exploited to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or gain escalated privileges.

1) An error in the iptables firewall logging rules can be exploited by malicious people to crash a vulnerable system via a specially crafted IP packet.

For more information:
SA11202

2) Insecure handling of a privileged instruction can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain root privileges.

The second vulnerability affects SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 on the S/390 platform.
