Description

Paul Starzetz has reported a vulnerability in the Linux kernel, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to errors in the binary format loaders within the memory management.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code with root privileges.

The vulnerability has been reported in the 2.4 branch up to and including version 2.4.29-rc2, and in the 2.6 branch up to and including version 2.6.10.


Solution
The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.4.29.
