Description: iDEFENSE has reported a vulnerability in IBM AIX, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to a format string error in the auditselect utility and can be exploited by supplying specially crafted arguments containing format specifiers.
Successful exploitation allows users in the "audit" group to gain root privileges.
The vulnerability affects AIX 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3.
Solution: The vendor recommends setting the mode bits to "500" on the affected utility.
