CVE-2005-0549

Description:
Thomas Liam Romanis has reported two vulnerabilities in AnswerBook2 Documentation Server, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting and script insertion attacks.

1) Input passed to the "webQuery" parameter in the search functionality is not properly sanitised before being returned to users in search results. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

2) Input passed to the application is not properly sanitised before being saved in log files. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code into log files, which will be executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected site when a log file is viewed via the "View Log Files" functionality.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in versions 1.4.4 or prior (for Solaris 7 and 8).

Solution:
The vendor recommends that the AnswerBook2 Documentation Server is disabled and users instead refer to the Sun documentation at the Sun Product Documentation web site or on the Solaris Documentation CD.
