Description:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Microsoft ActiveSync, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service), enumerate valid equipment IDs or bypass certain security restrictions.

1) It is possible to enumerate valid equipment IDs by examining the response via some specially crafted data sent to port 5679/tcp.

This can further be exploited to trick users into disclosing passwords for mobile devices to malicious people.

2) An error in the communication handling can be exploited to freeze the ActiveSync process by sending multiple initialization requests to port 5679/tcp.

3) ActiveSync does not enforce password authentication when network synchronisation is performed. This can be exploited to cause to a PDA to sync with a malicious ActiveSync server or by a malicious PDA to access a ActiveSync server using partnership IDs sniffed from the network.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 3.7.1. #3 is reported in version 3.8. Other versions may also be affected.
