Description

nnposter has discovered a weakness in Hummingbird FTP, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to disclose certain sensitive information.

The weakness is caused due to the use of a weak encryption algorithm to encrypt the FTP user's password stored in the FTP profile. It is possible to recover the password by subtracting 125 from each password character obtained from the profile.

The weakness has been confirmed in Hummingbird FTP 2006, and also reported in version 10. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution
Restrict access to the FTP profiles with proper file permissions.
