|
|
Description: Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in Home FTP Server, which can be exploited by malicious users to access arbitrary files on a vulnerable system, and by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service)
1) An input validation error makes it possible to escape the FTP root and retrieve arbitrary files on the system via directory traversal attacks using the "../../" character sequence.
2) An error in the handling of the USER command with an overly long username can be exploited to cause the service to consume large amount of CPU resources and stop responding to requests.
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version r1.0.7 (build 45). Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a FTP proxy.
Grant only access to trusted users.
The impact of directory traversal attacks can be lessened by placing the FTP root on a separate drive letter or by restricting access using NTFS.
