|
Description: vade79 has discovered two vulnerabilities in Gopher client, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
1) A boundary error in the "VIfromLine()" function when copying an input line to a stack buffer can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long "+VIEWS:" reply from the server.
2) A boundary error in the "FIOgetargv()" function when processing arguments for launching external programs can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long "hWeblink" reply from the server.
Successful exploitation requires that a user e.g. is tricked into connecting to a malicious Gopher server.
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 3.0.9. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Update to version 3.0.11.
