Description: A vulnerability has been reported in IRIX, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions on a vulnerable system with escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error in "runpriv" when using the user supplied command line to run authorised commands with root privileges. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary shell commands with root privileges by appending a string containing additional commands to execute to the end of an authorized command string.
Successful exploitation requires that the user is granted permissions to execute some binaries in "/usr/sysadm/privbin".
The vulnerability has been reported in versions 6.5.22, 6.5.27, and 6.5.28. Prior versions may also be affected.
