Description

Apple has issued an update for Mac OS X. This fixes some vulnerabilities and a security issue, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions or to gain knowledge of potentially sensitive information.

1) An error in "memberd" when handling changes to group memberships may be exploited by malicious users to access files or other resources even after they have been removed from a group. This is caused due to group membership changes not being enforced immediately in access control checks.

The vulnerability has been reported in Mac OS X Server v10.4.2.

2) An error in the Keychain access utility in handling automatic password display timeouts may be exploited to disclose the password that is currently being viewed. This is caused due to the password display not being hidden after timeout.

The security issue has been reported in Mac OS X v10.4.2 and Mac OS X Server v10.4.2.

3) Some errors in the "ifconf()" function used to query network interfaces and the "atp_pack_bdsp()" function used for appletalk, may be exploited to return data that includes sensitive information in uninitialized kernel memory.

For more information:
SA14959
SA15262

The vulnerabilities have been reported in Mac OS X v10.4.2 and Mac OS X Server v10.4.2.

An issue in the Software Update and another in the displaying of file and group permissions in the Finder Get Info Window have also been fixed.

Solution
Apply Mac OS X 10.4.3 update.
