Description: dr_insane has discovered a vulnerability in Macromedia Flash Media Server, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).
The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the Administration Service (FMSAdmin.exe) when handling received data. This can be exploited to crash the service by sending certain malformed data to port 1111/tcp.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 2.0 r1145 and also reported in version 1.5. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: The vendor recommends the following workarounds.
1) Restrict access to the Administration Service using a boundary firewall.
2) Restrict access to the Administration Service to 127.0.0.1 only using a host-based firewall.
3) Disable the Administration Service on production systems.
