|
|
Description: Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in geoBlog, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks and SQL injection attacks, or to bypass certain security restrictions.
1) Input passed to the "cat" parameter in "viewcat.php" isn't properly sanitised before being used in a SQL query. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.
Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.
This can further be exploited to disclose users' encrypted passwords. If administrator access is gained, then arbitrary files can be uploaded to a location inside the web root.
2) Input passed to the "cat" parameter in "viewcat.php" is also not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
3) Some vulnerabilities are caused due to improper authentication verification in admin/listcomment.php, admin/deletecomment.php, and admin/deleteblog.php. This can be exploited to list comment IDs, delete comments, or delete blog entries without any user credentials.
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version MOD_1.0. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
Restrict web access (e.g. with ".htaccess") to the admin/ directory.
