CVE-2006-0598
CVE-2006-0599
CVE-2006-0600

Description:
Some vulnerabilities and a security issue have been reported in ELOG, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose potentially sensitive information, cause a DoS (Denial of Service), bypass certain security restrictions, and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A format string error exists in the "write_logfile()" function in elogd.c when logging events to the log file. This can be exploited to crash the server and may allow arbitrary code execution via a specially-crafted username submitted from the login page.

Successful exploitation requires that logging is enabled.

The vulnerability has been reported in versions prior to 2.6.0-1.

2) An error in the validation of certain URLs may be exploited to access files from outside of the elog directory via requests containing the "../.." sequence in a directory traversal attack.

The vulnerability has been reported in versions prior to 2.6.1.

3) A boundary error in elogd.c can be exploited to crash the server via overly long revision attributes.

The vulnerability has been reported in versions prior to 2.5.8-6.

4) A boundary error exists in elogd.c when writing to the log file. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow and may allow execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability has been reported in versions prior to 2.5.9-1.

5) Different error messages are displayed for invalid passwords and invalid users. This can potentially be exploited to enumerate valid user names.

The security issue has been reported in versions prior to 2.6.0-beta4.

6) An infinite redirection error exists in elogd.c within the handling of the "fail" parameter. This can potentially be exploited to cause a DoS by setting "fail=1".

The vulnerability has been reported in versions prior to 2.6.0-beta5.

NOTE: Several other unspecified issues, which may be security related, have also been fixed.

Solution:
Update to version 2.6.1.
