CVE-2006-1121
CVE-2006-1925

Description:
Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in CuteNews, which can be exploited by malicious users to disclose or manipulate potentially sensitive information, and by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

1) Input passed to the "show" parameter in "show_news.php", the "source" parameter in "index.php", and to the URL when showing comments isn't properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

Examples:
http://[victim]/show_news.php?subaction=addcomment&id=[id]&name=[valid_username]&show=[code]
http://[victim]/index.php?subaction=showcomments&id=[id]&archive=&start_from=&ucat=&">[code]
http://[victim]/index.php?mod=editnews&action=editnews&id=[id]&source=[code]

2) Input passed to the "source" parameter in "index.php" isn't properly sanitised before being used to edit news. This can be exploited via directory traversal attacks to disclose or manipulate parts of the contents of arbitrary files having a specially structure (elements separated by a "|" pipe character).

Successful exploitation requires editor privileges.

3) Input passed to the "mod" parameter in "index.php" is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.4.1. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
1-2) Update to version 1.4.5.

3) Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
