Description: taviso has reported a weakness in Busybox, which potentially can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions.
The weakness is caused due to a salt not being used in "passwd" to generate MD5 password hashes. This increases the probability that the passwords can derived using dictionary attacks.
Successful exploitation requires that the attacker is able to obtain a copy of the shadow file.
The weakness has been reported in version 1.1.1. Other versions may also be affected.
