CVE-2006-1613

Description:
Some vulnerabilities and a security issue have been reported in aWebNews, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct script insertion and SQL injection attacks, and potentially to spoof the contents of a website.

1) Input passed to the "yname", "emailadd", "subject", and "comment" parameters in visview.php is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site when malicious comments are viewed.

2) Input passed to the "user123" parameter in login.php and fpass.php, and to the "cid" parameter in visview.php is not properly sanitised before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

3) Input passed to the "page" parameter in login.php isn't properly validated before being used to redirect the admin user after a successful logon. This can be potentially be exploited to redirect the admin user to a malicious or spoofed website after logon.

Successful exploitation requires that the admin user is e.g. tricked into accessing the logon page by following a specially-crafted link.

4) Input passed to the "path_to_news" parameter in visview.php is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary PHP code by including files from local or external resources.

Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.

The vulnerabilities and security issue have been confirmed in version 1.0. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
