Description: Julien L. has discovered a vulnerability in ejabberd, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions with escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to the temporary file "/tmp/bitrock_installer.log" being created insecurely during the installation process of the binary version for Linux. This can be exploited via symlink attacks to create or overwrite arbitrary files with privileges of the user running the installation program.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 1.1.1_1 (binary). Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Fixed in version 1.1.1_2 (installer binary for Linux).
Provided and/or discovered by: Julien L.
Changelog: 2006-05-04: Updated "Solution" section.
