Description: Three vulnerabilities have been discovered in XM Easy Personal FTP Server, which can be exploited by malicious users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service), and by malicious people to cause a DoS and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
1) A boundary error exists within the handling of the USER command. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via overly long arguments passed to the command.
Successful exploitation crashes the FTP server and may allow arbitrary code execution.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 4.3. Other versions may also be affected.
2) A format string error exists when displaying the server log using the username received via the USER command. This can potentially be exploited to execute arbitrary code via specially crafted username passed to the command.
Successful exploitation crashes the FTP server and may allow arbitrary code execution.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 4.3. Other versions may also be affected.
3) A boundary error exists within the handling of the PORT command. This can be exploited to cause out-of-bounds memory access via overly long arguments passed to the command.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 4.3 and 5.0.2, and has also been reported in version 5.0.1. Other versions may also be affected.
