|
|
Description: Luigi Auriemma has reported two vulnerabilities in Genecys, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially to compromise a vulnerable system.
1) A boundary error exists in the "tell_player_surr_changes()" function due to the unsafe use of the "sprintf()" and "strcat() functions". This can potentially be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and may allow arbitrary code execution.
2) A NULL pointer dereferencing error in the "parse_command()" function can be exploited to crash the server via a specially-crafted command sent from a client that does not contain the ":" character.
The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 0.2 and in the current CVS version. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Host games on trusted networks only.
Provided and/or discovered by: Luigi Auriemma
Changelog: 2006-05-26: Added CVE references.
