Description: A security issue has been reported in aRts, which potentially can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions with escalated privileges.
The security issue is caused due to the "artswrapper" helper application failing to check whether it has successfully dropped its privileges via "setuid()" before running the aRts daemon. This can potentially be exploited to launch the daemon with root privileges, which may allow the user to perform certain actions as the root user.
The security issue has been reported in versions 1.0.x and 1.2.x.
Note: "artswrapper" is usually suid root to enable normal users to start the aRts daemon with realtime privileges.
Solution: Apply patches.
