CVE-2008-0554

Description:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in NetPBM, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

1) An off-by-one boundary error exists within "pamtofits". This can be exploited to cause a single byte buffer overflow when processing a specially crafted input file.

The vulnerability is reported in versions 10.30 through 10.33.

Successful exploitation crashes the application. Code execution has not been confirmed. However, this can't be ruled out completely.

2) An input validation error exists within the "readImageData" function in giftopnm.c, which can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via a specially crafted image file.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability is reported in versions prior to 10.27.

Solution:
Update to version 10.34 or later.
