|
Description: Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Wireshark, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerabilities are caused due to various types of errors including boundary errors, format string errors, off-by-one errors, an infinite loop error, and a memory allocation problem in a multitude of protocol dissectors.
Successful exploitation causes Wireshark to stop responding, consume a large amount of system resources, crash, or execute arbitrary code.
Solution: Update to version 0.99.4.
Provided and/or discovered by: The vendor credits Ilja van Sprundel for reporting some of the vulnerabilities.
Changelog: 2006-11-13: Added new information from Wireshark. Added new CVE identifiers and updated "Solution" and "Original Advisory" sections.
2006-12-01: Added link to US-CERT.
