Description: Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in Simple Machines Forum, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct SQL injection attacks and malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
1) Input passed to the "cur_cat" parameter in Sources/ManageBoards.php when adding a new board is not properly sanitised before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.
Successful exploitation requires privileges to add a new board.
2) Input passed to the "params" parameter in index.php is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 1.1 RC3. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: The vulnerabilities are reportedly fixed in version 1.0.9 and patches have been released for version 1.1 RC3.
