Secunia Advisory: SA22496
Release Date: 2006-10-23
Last Update: 2006-10-31

Critical:

Impact: System access
Where: From remote
Solution Status: Unpatched

Software:RSSonate

CVE reference:CVE-2006-5518 (Secunia mirror)

- Companies can be alerted when a patch is released!

Description:
Kw3rLN has reported some vulnerabilities in RSSonate, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

Input passed to the "PROJECT_ROOT" parameter in multiple files is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary PHP code by including files from local or external resources.

Examples:
http://[host]/getFeed/inc/xml2rss.php?PROJECT_ROOT=[file]
http://[host]/getFeed/inc/config_local.php?PROJECT_ROOT=[file]
http://[host]/getFeed/inc/rssonate.php?PROJECT_ROOT=[file]
http://[host]/getFeed/inc/sql2xml.php?PROJECT_ROOT=[file]

Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.

Solution:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified.

Provided and/or discovered by:
Kw3rLN

2006-10-31: Added CVE reference.
