Description:
LMH has reported some vulnerabilities in FreeBSD, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerabilities are caused due to integer overflows within the "ffs_mountfs()" and "ffs_rdextattr()" functions. This can be exploited to crash the kernel or possibly execute arbitrary code by mounting a specially crafted UFS image.
The vulnerabilities are reported in FreeBSD 6.1. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution:
Allow only trusted users to mount UFS images.
