Description

Some vulnerabilities and a security issue have been discovered in SimpleBlog, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose sensitive information, conduct SQL injection attacks, and perform actions with escalated privileges.

1) Various scripts in the "admin" directory do not properly authenticate user requests. This can be exploited to perform certain actions with escalated privileges (e.g. to add users).

2) Input passed to the "id" parameter in admin/edit.asp and comments_get.asp is not properly sanitised before being used in a SQL query. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

3) The security issue is caused due to database db/simpleBlog.mdb being stored with insecure permissions inside the web root. This can be exploited to gain knowledge of potentially sensitive information by downloading the file.

The vulnerabilities are partially reported in version 2.3 and confirmed in version 3.0. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised and restrict access to the admin and database directory.
