CVE-2006-6595

Description:
Qx has reported some vulnerabilities in ScriptMate User Manager, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct SQL injection and script insertion attacks, and by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

1) Input passed to the "members_username" and "members_password" form field parameters during login is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

2) Input passed to unspecified parameters is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious data is viewed.

3) Input passed to unspecified parameters in the "Manage Resources" section is not properly sanitised before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

Successful exploitation of vulnerabilities #2 and #3 requires valid user credentials.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 2.1. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a web-proxy and grant only trusted users access to the application.

Provided and/or discovered by:
Qx

Changelog:

2006-12-22: Updated "Description" section. Added CVE reference.
