Where:

From remote

Impact:

Cross Site Scripting, System access

Solution Status:

Unpatched

CVE Reference(s):

Description

Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in Poplar Gedcom Viewer, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks and to compromise a vulnerable system.

1) Input passed to the "env[rootPath]" parameter in include/common.php is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to include arbitrary files from local or external resources.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires that "register_globals" is enabled.

2) Input passed to the "text" parameter in index.php (when "page" is set to "search") is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 2.0. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified and sanitised.
