|
Description: Marsu Pilami has discovered a vulnerability in NewsBin Pro, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error when processing NBI configuration files. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted NBI file with an overly long (greater than 512 bytes) DataPath value.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the user is tricked into e.g. loading a malicious NBI configuration file.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 5.33. Other versions may also be affected.
Solution: Do not open untrusted NBI files.
Provided and/or discovered by: Marsu Pilami
Changelog: 2007-03-02: Added CVE reference.
